Star Wars: Every Movie & TV Show Ranked Worst To Best

18. The Rise Of Skywalker

empire strikes back
Lucasfilm

As the final chapter of the Skywalker Saga, The Rise of Skywalker had a lot riding on its shoulders, and for the most part squandered its potential.

Despite some bright spots found in the bracing duels between Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) and its striking visual flare, the movie offers up a barrage of unwanted twists - such as the sudden return of Emperor Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid) - and nonsensical character motivations.

Frustratingly unsure of itself and unable to reach the high bar set by its predecessor, the should-be epic finale is a sullen example of fan service gone wrong, wasting its game cast and dampening the legacy of the Saga's core development.

It's not entirely meritless, but in terms of sheer disappointment, the Skywalker Saga was never worse than it was right at the end.
