Star Wars: EVERY Movie & TV Show Ranked Worst To Best
10. The Last Jedi
Let's get this out there: The Last Jedi is visually the most impressive film of the franchise.
The direction of Rian Johnson and the sets make the film staggeringly beautiful. The use of colour and sweeping landscapes is next to none, and with every frame there's something to admire. Add to that a typically stunning score from John Williams and solid performances from Adam Driver, Benicio del Toro, Daisy Ridley and John Boyega, and what you're left with is a well-made Star Wars film.
The only thing lacking (and it's a biggie) is an effective narrative. Whilst Mark Hamill's acting has certainly improved since the original trilogy, the story he has to work with doesn't seem massively in-keeping with the character fans once knew. Sure, the new trilogy has to make some changes in order to keep things fresh, but Luke's detachment from the Force doesn't quite gel.
Also, the film has a slight issue with side-lining villains. Hux, once threatening, is reduced to a source of comic relief, Phasma is dispatched with little care, and Snoke - set up as the new big bad of the saga - is cut down with relative ease and little backstory. Finn and Rose's journey, meanwhile, is quite moving and gives an interesting look at the galaxy and its politics, but they don't really achieve anything in the end.
It's kept up by some of the saga's best acting, and the effects are astounding; there's just not enough here to rank higher.
