Star Wars: Everything We Know About George Lucas' Sequel Trilogy

9. Something Completely Different

While The Force Awakens was largely well received by fans and critics - so much so that it went on to become one of the biggest movies of all time - it did have a number of similarities to the original Star Wars, something George Lucas himself noted.

In an interview with Charlie Rose, he explained that Disney wanted to "make something for the fans" and labelled The Force Awakens as being a "retro movie."

He, on the other hand, would've looked to do something "...completely different, with different planets, with different spaceships, make it new." He doesn't go into specifics on this point, but it's very clear even just from this that George Lucas' Episode VII wouldn't have looked much like J.J. Abrams' version, even if there were some ideas that remained consistent.
