Star Wars: Everything We Know About George Lucas' Sequel Trilogy
3. Force-Feeding Creatures
One of the most recent details that Lucas has revealed, he spoke about his plans for the Force in an interview with James Cameron, which appears in the companion book to AMC's James Cameron's Story of Science Fiction. Lucas said:
"[The next three Star Wars films] were going to get into the microbiotic world. But there's this world of creatures that operate differently than we do. I call them the Whills. And the Whills are the ones who actually control the universe. They feed off the Force."
This is clearly something that Lucas had really been wanting to explore since The Phantom Menace, as in the same interview he mentions finding a way of exploring the Force that doesn't piss people off. The midi-chlorians were his first attempt, and he would've been trying something different this time around, but with these new creatures - and what the Force really is - taking a much wider role than it did there.
