Star Wars: The Force Awakens - 6 New Things To Learn From The Trailer

6. The Rebel Alliance And The Empire Are Back

The first of many big reveals is that the Rebel Alliance is still in existence by the events of The Force Awakens. Or at least, it's ideology is. Now that Abrams has revealed to the world that the pilots in those iconic fighters still have the Rebel logo adorning their helmets and uniforms, a view of this future is falling into place. Is the Rebel Alliance still in full force due to the Empire still holding on to power, or does the emblem represent something new? The resurrection of the Republic, perhaps. The presence of TIE Fighters at the end seems to suggest the former, but in what capacity the Empire still exists is still unclear. The stormtroopers and TIE's present in the trailer could very well be remnants of the once-grand Empire rather than a fully-fledged force, but even the complete opposite could be true. The Emperor could very easily have been replaced after his death in Return Of The Jedi, and while it was his genius that led to its creation, it wouldn't have taken much for one individual to shoulder his ideology and continue with it (minus the Sith stuff, obviously). There's an almost endless amount of possibilities as to why both factions still exist, and it'll be interesting to see which direction Abrams decides to go in.
