Just as ILM's John Knoll was a key power behind Rogue One, Han Solo appears in part to be the brainchild of Lawrence Kasdan (Empire and The Force Awakens screenwriter); it was the movie he specifically wanted to write after Episode VII, and we now know he also made the choice of director.

Kasdan specifically picked out Lord and Miller, which acts as the ultimate endorsement of the duo and makes the whole project feel like it's got a clear, defined, purposeful direction.

This also gives us a major clue towards the tone they're going for; if Jump Street and Lego (and maybe their TV work like Clone High and Brooklyn Nine-Nine) show what Kasdan wants, it's likely to be a more exuberant, fun affair. Imagine an anti-Rogue One.
