Star Wars: Predicting The Next 10 Years Of The Franchise

9. 2016: Rogue One - The Coolest Movie In The Star Wars Canon

In 2016, the next measure of success will be the first anthology movie, Gareth Robert's directed Rogue One. This will be the first major event not to feature any of the principal characters of the trilogy.

Sure Darth Vader and Boba Fett are confirmed to appear, but the dark lord of the Sith will be kept to a minimum and fans need to remove those rose-tinted glasses and remember that the infamous bounty hunter had very little screen time in both his movies (if you ignore the kid in Attack Of The Clones).

In other words, it will be up to an entirely fresh cast to carry the movie.

What We Know Will Happen

Based on the premise recently leaked, Rogue One will focus not only on a band of rebels sent to steal the Death Star plans but a villainous Imperial Moff (Ben Mendelsohn) and a host of bounty hunters; yes, Boba Fett, Bossk, Dengar, Zuckuss and 4LOM, IG-88 will all get in on the action, joined by Cad Bane from the animated Clone Wars as he transitions to the big screen.

Given the recent rumours, the announcement of production on the first Netflix Star Wars show for 2017 is very, very likely...

What We Predict Will Happen

With daring raids, ruthless bounty hunters, plenty of action, intrigue and a battle against insurmountable odds that was at the heart of the original Star Wars trilogy, Rogue One will emerge as the coolest entry in the Star Wars Cinematic Universe. Also expect live action cameos from the the cast of Star Wars Rebels too.

Expect confirmation at this stage that Ewan McGregor is returning to the franchise for an anthology Obi Wan Kenobi movie, set between Episodes III and IV, to follow Boba Fett in 2021...
