In December of 2020, at the Walt Disney Company’s Investor Day Event, Lucasfilm announced to the world that they would be creating a whole host of new films and TV series set within the Star Wars Universe, with many of them being exclusives to the streaming service Disney+. This announcement was met with much praise from investors, as it would address concerns over the lack of new content on Disney+, while also giving Star Wars fans new shows and films to look forward to in the future.
What has gotten fans especially excited is the variety of shows and films that were announced as well as the talent linked to each of the new projects. Where some ideas seem to be safer options that will try and please as many fans as possible, others seem to be unafraid at exploring new territory and ideas that have not been seen in Star Wars before.
With all this new Star Wars content on the way, this list will take into account all of the new projects that were announced and rank them according to which of them seems to show the most promise at satisfying fans and their itch for Star Wars.
12. The Acolyte
The Acolyte may seem like an interesting Star Wars project on the surface, but on closer inspection there are a number of factors working against it.
For starters, the show will take place in the same timeline as the High Republic, the new publishing initiative that takes place 200 years before the prequel films and will be a mystery-thriller that focuses on the emergence of new dark side powers. This will already anger fans who loved the original Star Wars Expanded Universe comics and may even be the reason why they might not watch it.
Furthermore, events in the comics could put limitations on what the show could do with its story and plot while also running the risk of alienating viewers by referencing characters they may not be familiar with if they have not read the new comics, or by not meeting the expectations of those that they do know.
