Star Wars: Ranking The Lightsaber Battles From Worst To Best

3. Obi-Wan Vs Darth Vader - Revenge Of The Sith

The second the prequels were announced it was inevitable that this moment was coming. Faced with the terrible truth that Qui-Gon was wrong, Obi-Wan realizes that Anakin is beyond salvation and must be stopped. This scene might be a little far-fetched (standing that close to lava in real life would cause you to burst into flames), but nevertheless was slam dunk entertainment. Much like Luke vs Vader in Return of the Jedi, the emotionally compelling factors behind the sword play made it worthwhile. Anakin, driven by fear of losing Padme, has given himself wholly to the dark side. Consumed by his rage he attempts to kill Obi-Wan, who realizes he has no choice but to kill the apprentice he swore to train. Watching Anakin, limbless, crawl up the slope as lava burns his body was haunting. Little did these two realize they would meet again, some twenty years in the future, to cross swords in a dance of death not quite as exciting. Knowing the details of their previous interaction makes us wonder what was running through Vader's mind behind his helmet in A New Hope. "Wow, Obi-Wan, you got really old, really fast."
