Star Wars: Rise Of Skywalker - Everything It Gets Wrong
14. Luke's First Words Contradict His Lightsaber Throw
Another thing created to directly appease a former scene, the opening of The Last Jedi - where Luke tosses his lightsaber over his shoulder - gets retconned, with the character having a major change of heart.
Coming when Rey is raging out after the death of Leia, she flees to Ahch-To (for some reason) and after burning Kylo's replacement TIE Fighter, goes to throw her lightsaber into the blazing inferno.
What should appear in this moment though? Luke Skywalker, arm outstretched, to grab the saber and save it from burning.
His line of dialogue though? He states to Rey that such a weapon "deserves respect" and shouldn't just be callously thrown into the fire.
The whole thing is a blatant reversal of what happened in The Last Jedi, and only exists as another middle finger to Rian Johnson.
