Who is this guy? What's his deal? Where does he come from and why is so badass?
These are just a few of the questions fans have got about Chirrut Îmwe, portrayed by Donnie Yen. He's one of the most striking figures in the trailers, clobbering Stormtroopers over the head with his staff and spouting words of wisdom.
It's clear that Îmwe's culture is vastly different from Erso's and the rest of her crew. The implication, then, is that Îmwe hails from another part of the galaxy, potentially a long way away.
Îmwe's character could be an opportunity to broaden and scope of the Star Wars universe in an interesting way. Even if that's not the case, he just seems like a really cool character to finally see on-screen.
