2. Dark Forces
The story of how the Rebels stole the plans to the Death Star is certainly exciting and ripe for the telling on the big screen (especially after seeing this trailer), but it's also one that's been told before.
Dark Forces was a videogame released back in 1995, and part of it revolved around the stealing of the plans to the Death Star by a group of Rebels. Sound familiar? There's more.
One of the main characters was called Jan Ors, an Imperial spy who then joins the Rebels, which sounds - both in character and name - like Jyn Erso. The main protagonist, meanwhile, was a Rebel by the name of Kyle Katarn, who bears a certain resemblance to Diego Luna's character.
Forest Whitaker's character, meanwhile, is wearing a suit that looks like it could be inspired by, or a repurposed version of, the Dark Trooper armour that appears in that videogame (the black uniformed Stormtroopers could also be a nod to this), while Tudyk's droid is similar in design to that of 8T88, a character from the game's sequel.
