Star Wars Rogue One: 20 WTF Moments
4. CGI Princess Leia
The movie ends with Princess Leia being handed the Death Star plans, and though the shot initially just shows her from behind, the camera then pans around to reveal a CGI rendering of a young Carrie Fisher.
By any objective metric, the attempt to recreate Fisher is pretty good...if we were playing a video game, but sadly it doesn't quite measure up in a movie being watched on the big screen. The fake Leia falls straight into the uncanny valley and feels like an over-the-top fan service moment when a more restrained over-the-shoulder shot would've been sufficient.
Hopefully this doesn't set a precedent moving forward with future anthology movies that we might see more of this.
