Star Wars Rogue One: 20 WTF Moments

3. All The Heroes Actually Die

One of the biggest questions surrounding Rogue One was whether any of the heroes might survive in order to leave the door open for a new spin-off series of movies.

As it turned out, though, the entire band of heroes were killed off in the third act: droid K-2SO (Alan Tudyk) detonates himself in order to protect Jyn and Cassian, while Bodhi, Chirrut (Donnie Yen) and Baze (Jiang Wen) are blown up, and Jyn and Cassian are incinerated by the Death Star's blast.

It's a brave move and cements that Rogue One admirably was just a one-off. Considering this is so anathema to a studio as money-hungry as Disney, it's a genuinely shocking moment, especially as it initially seemed like the wall of fire might stop short of killing Jyn and Cassian.

Though Rogue One has a number of dubious creative calls, this one was 100% the right choice.
