Star Wars Rogue One: 8 Things We Learned From New International Trailer

1. Trust The Force

Staying on target with the symbolic nature of the necklace and Kyber crystal attached are the words Jyn's mother tells her: "Trust the Force". With Rogue One being the first of it's kind, absent of the struggle between the Jedi and the Dark side, it's clear the Force is still heavily influential.

While the ways of the Jedi are all but extinct at the time of Rogue One, their ways are not. The Church of the Force is a new concept within Star Wars mythology. It's an underground movement for those that are not necessarily Force sensitive but follow the ways of the Jedi. At it's most fundamental, it structures a religious foundation within the galaxy that anyone can follow other than just the Jedi. Flash forward years into the future along the Star Wars timeline to The Force Awakens, and it's revealed Max von Sydow's character, Lor San Tekka is a follower of the Church of the Force.

It's very possible Jyn and her family were members of this belief system or church. Add in another story arc involving Jyn losing her faith as a child and regaining it as the story evolves and audiences get another layer to an inspiring character. Although this may appear to be an innocent line, its ramifications carry on through the entire Star Wars lore. The Force isn't just for those attuned to it, but anyone who believes in its mystical ways.
