Star Wars Rogue One: 8 Things We Learned From New International Trailer
A Rebel cause or a father's love?
While most Star Wars fans get big reveals about upcoming films from trailer releases, sometimes the TV spots and international trailers shed a different light. A majority of the trailers and TV spots are made from the same footage, but sometimes new scenes appear to offer a different perspective.
Recently, a new international trailer aired for Rogue One showing some of these new scenes, adding completely different elements to the story. Much of this new international trailer focuses on the relationship between Jyn Erso and her family; and not just her father. While it's easy to speculate on the possible narrative of the film, the new international trailer appears to add a lot to Jyn's backstory.
It's amazing how a few extra seconds and short scenes can add so much to a story, especially when those scenes are organized to get the fan imagination churning even harder.
Here are 8 things we learned from the new Rogue One international trailer.
8. Jyn Erso's Mother
Fans have known since the initial promotional period for Rogue One that there would a strong father-daughter connection. This connection revolves around Galen Erso and his daughter Jyn. As time would pass, fans would learn the entire Erso family are set to play a role in the story.
A big shocker in the international trailer is the reveal of Jyn's mother, Lyra Erso. Known to be mostly a supporting role, Lyra has yet to make any promotional appearances up until this point. While the trailer itself sets a "narrative" tone for all of two and half minutes, it's Lyra's words and the gift she gives her daughter that is the most puzzling, a point we'll explore.
There's no denying Jyn's path from childhood to adulthood is difficult. It appears her father is ripped away from her by the Empire to work on a secret project and the end result for her mother is unknown to fans. It has to be assumed she meets a terrible fate, thrusting Jyn on her mission as an outlaw against the Empire.
