9. Jyn Is Arrested And Given The Mission
Jump forward to 1 BBY, with Jyn in Rebel captivity on their secret base, a strong contrast to her childhood.
This sequence has been featured heavily in the trailers, with Mon Mothma chastising Jyn (in the presence of Rebel top brass, including General Dodonna and Bail Organa), before twisting it and telling her she's actually been brought in to help the Alliance gather intel on the Empire's imminent major weapons test.
The International Trailer's now revealed how this sequence of events been brought about - they've intercepted a coded message from Galen. It's possibly by accident, but it's much more likely he wanted to get the information out, hoping the emergent militia would fight back. Quite why this qualifies Jyn to lead is unclear - probably a mix of her knowledge of Galen and proven skills free of moral limitations - but regardless she's made the squad leader (and later picks up Cassian to join the team).
