Star Wars: Rogue One Vs Solo - Which Is Better?
8. Set Pieces
Rogue One has a few solid set pieces throughout its first two thirds. For instance, the huge fight sequence on Jedha is spectacular, as is the destruction of the moon's capital by the Death Star.
However, it's the final act that Rogue One really pulled out all the stops. The battle on the surface of Scarif, as well as the space battle above were full of incredible, emotional set pieces that just came one after the other. Between each main character's death, the ramming of one Star Destroyer into another, the Death Star firing upon Scarif, and, of course, the iconic Darth Vader hallway scene, Rogue One's third act is an eventful one, to say the very least.
Solo has some truly great set pieces on display as well. The opening chase scene was good fun, the train heist was a great way to get the ball rolling as far as the main plot was concerned, and the fight sequence on Savareen capped things off in a satisfying way. Finally, there's Solo's crown jewel: the Kessel Run, which is beyond exciting to watch.
Winner: Solo had some fantastic set pieces that helped make the film such a ride, the Kessel Run especially, but they don't pack quite as big a punch as the unadulterated chaos and emotion of Rogue One's final act. Hence, why Rogue One deserves this point.
