Star Wars: Rogue One Vs Solo - Which Is Better?
9. New Characters
Given how its entire purpose was to tell an entirely new and different story than any of the other main Star Wars films, it comes as no surprise that Rogue One had no shortage of great, brand-new characters on display. Jyn Erso is a fun lead, her father Galen is a complex foil for the Empire, Cassian Andor is a great deuteragonist, and Bodhi Rook is a charming everyman. In addition, Chirrut Îmwe is an incredibly entertaining character who is more than capable of bringing the action alongside Baze Malbus. Finally, there's sassy droid K-2SO, who steals the show at every available opportunity.
Solo also introduces some solid new characters, but they clearly take a backseat to the returning characters of Lando, Chewbacca, and, of course, Han Solo himself. That said, Beckett is still an entertaining character, Dryden Vos is a terrific villain, and say what you will about Emilia Clarke's performance, but Qi'ra was very well-written. However, while Val and Rio were fun, they were killed off very early on. L3-37 could also be hilarious, but she is sure to split fans down the middle.
Winner: Rogue One wins this round handily. It was focused around fresh new faces who were given more than enough time to make a significant impression. The newcomers in Solo were solid and had their time to shine, but the classic characters were very much the stars of the show.
