Star Wars: Rogue One Vs Solo - Which Is Better?
6. Plot Twists
Rogue One's ending of every single one of the main characters dying in their final bid to get the Death Star plans off of Scarif makes for an incredibly emotional and shocking moment, especially when you see the film for the first time. That being said, it doesn't quite count as a plot twist, per se, as the film never did much to make it seem like things would play out any other way. In fact, in hindsight, the writing on the wall in regards to the characters' fates was apparent fairly early on.
Solo, on the other hand, has a number of minor plot twists, some of which work better than others. Beckett's betrayal of Han and company was well-done and necessary plot moment, but was also telegraphed pretty hard and most viewers likely saw it coming a mile off. However, the twist of Enfys Nest actually being a rebel cell, as opposed to marauders, was genuinely unexpected and really helped piece together Solo's final act. And, of course, there was the final reveal of (Darth) Maul being the leader of Crimson Dawn, which marked the character's first theatrical appearance in nineteen years.
Winner: As genuinely emotional as Rogue One's final act is, the film made it fairly obvious that none of its new characters were going to make it out alive. Meanwhile, Solo has three genuine plot twists, at least two of which really land. Another point for Solo.
