Star Wars: Rogue One Vs Solo - Which Is Better?
5. Villains
In addition to the returning Darth Vader and Grand Moff Tarkin (both of whom have terrific moments), Rogue One added a new villain to the Star Wars lore: Orson Krennic. Admittedly, Krennic didn't really live up to his potential as the film's main antagonist, but he was still a fairly solid baddie. The way Krennic carried himself and commanded his forces made him look like a convincing Imperial leader and Ben Mendelsohn's performance as Krennic was absolutely stellar.
Meanwhile, Solo introduced Dryden Vos (the quasi-leader of Crimson Dawn) as its main villain, who was an absolute joy. Vos has a unique look, is a cold-blooded killer who can more than hold his own in a fight, and Paul Bettany wonderfully portrayed a crime boss with unsettling mannerisms who tries to appear calm, but always seems as though he could snap at any moment. He's by no means a game-changer, but he's great for what he is.
Although, thanks to the aforementioned plot twists, Vos is really Solo's only villain. Enfys Nest ended up not being bad guys at all and while the Darth Maul reveal was very cool, it was more of a wink and a nod to those who follow the Star Wars TV shows than anything else.
Winner: Orson Krennic was a serviceable villain, but is easily topped by Dryden Vos. However, as fun as Vos is, he can't quite stand up to the iconic Darth Vader going on an absolute rampage in Rogue One's final moments, nor the ever-sinister Tarkin (especially not by himself.) In the end, Rogue One just nabs this one.
