Star Wars: Rogue One - Who Lives, Who Dies (And Why)

9. Chirrut Îmwe

ROGUE ONE
Lucasfilm

Chirrut Îmwe is a warrior devoted to the ways of Force but does not align himself with either the Jedi or Sith. Although little is known about Îmwe, his apparent blindness is not cause for weakness. Because of his devotion to the Force, it's assumed Îmwe has some sort of connection to the more spiritual elements and abilities.

The Star Wars galaxy is littered with blind warriors who call on the power of the Force to "see". From Legends characters like Rohm Kota and Imperial Inquisitor Jerec to Kanan Jarrus on Star Wars: Rebels, blindness is a factor. By the will of the Force, these characters prove to be worthy adversaries to their foes even with their limitations. Îmwe will be the first character with these abilities on screen, showing the power of the Force in a whole new way.

Fate: Dies

While the new Star Wars galaxy seeks to create continuity between all mediums, it would be foolish to introduce new and intriguing characters like Îmwe to immediately kill them off.

Sadly, that will be Îmwe's fate even though he could be the most intriguing and marketable character of the entire batch. Îmwe's death and sacrifice will spawn a whole new batch of Force sensitive characters moving forward. Even though the Jedi are gone, those attuned to the Force still live.
