Star Wars Sequels: 11 Huge Surprises That Could Still Happen

4. A Change Of Allegiance

Although not really witnessed in the film, the novelisation of The Force Awakens fleshed out a couple of the key scenes in rather intriguing ways. One is the pull of the Light felt by Kylo Ren when killing his father, and the pain he feels afterwards. The other is the opposite of that: Rey, during her battle with Kylo Ren, in the moment when he has her under a lot of pressure and tries to convince her to join him, feels the pull of the Dark Side. It's brief, but shows that there is an internal struggle within these characters, much like there was within Anakin and Luke. It's possible, then, that we could have a change of allegiance during the rest of the trilogy, in either direction (technically we've already had one, with Finn leaving the First Order, but in fairness he wasn't there by choice). Who could it be? Rey and Kylo Ren have both had their temptations, and may well again, although it's difficult to see either of them actually going over to the Dark/Light Side. There were also some rumours about Poe Dameron switching sides, brainwashed by Kylo Ren, and we could still see something along those lines; a Resistance fighter going over to the First Order would be a big surprise.
