5. The Star Destroyer Hangar And Oscillator Interior Are The Same Set

Now we get to the ultimate in cost-cutting deviousness, a show of how economical the production of The Force Awakens really was. When making the set for the Star Destroyer hangar near the start of the movie, the set designers decided they’d try and save time, money and a little bit of sanity by having it double as another location, namely the edge of the oscillator chasm (where Han heartbreakingly shouts out his son’s name).

With just a few adjustments - the TIE fighter dispenser chutes needed removing and some rails and pillars added - and some different lighting/shooting angle, and they managed to make a hangar look like part of a massive chasm wall; two sets literally for the price of one.
