Star Wars: The Force Awakens - 10 Major Questions From The New Trailer
3. Is The War Still On?
From the looks of Return Of The Jedi, peace had been returned to the universe. The second Death Star was destroyed, Vader and Palpatine were dead, everybody got medals again, and Leia and Han made out whilst some pervy Ewoks watched from the trees. But the end of a major conflict is never that easy, and it's not hard to imagine that when the Imperial forces are scattered all throughout the galaxy, our heroes may not have seen the last of them. Which means that The Force Awakens rather p*sses in the chips of the Original Trilogy's happy ending, implying that the war is still going on. Again from the Star Wars Celebration exhibition it sounds like the struggle between the Rebel Alliance and the Galactic Empire is still ongoing, although they're going by The Resistance and The First Order now, respectively. So the conflict rages on, but we've still skipped a good thirty years ahead from where Return Of The Jedi left off (cos that's how much has passed in real life and, well, everyone involved has aged appropriately). Did it die down for a while, though? In which case, why did it come back? Why the change in names? Who's fighting for what? And who is leading either side? It looks like the heat of battle is still all over The Force Awakens.
