The most complex and rewarding theory relating to Kylo Ren and Luke Skywalker's relationship suggests that Luke was simply a terrible teacher who accidentally turned his apprentice to the Dark Side. Or at least convinced him that he needed to awaken the Dark Side to restore balance to the Force in some misguided agenda. That would mean Ren was at one point aligned to Skywalker (as well as perhaps being related to him), whose teachings either revealed or consciously over-suppressed information about the Dark Side and compelled Ren to seek the truth for himself. Any Evidence? That would certainly fit with the idea of Kylo Ren as a Darth Vader fanboy and the revelation that he's not a real Sith by JJ Abrams. No matter why, it would appear that Ren imagines his destiny to be restoring balance to the Force, and the idea that his addiction is nurtured accidentally by Luke would fit with Skywalker's uneasy acceptance of his own destiny.
