Star Wars: The Force Awakens – 10 Mythology Aspects That Must Be Explored Further
10. Luke's Rushed Jedi Training
George Lucas transported his audience back to a time when the Jedi flourished in The Phantom Menace. That portrayed the Jedi Council at the height of its power and also the rigorous training required of the many Padawans within the temple. Even at a somewhat advanced age, Obi Wan Kenobi still hadn't passed the trials to become a full fledged Jedi Knight. Yet harken back to The Empire Strikes Back and we see something entirely different. When Luke landed his X-Wing into the muddy swamp on Dagobah, he couldn't have known that he was about to go on a weekend, boot camp, crash course in the ways of the Jedi. We see Luke do some wind sprints, carry Yoda on his back, levitate Artoo in the air and confront his dark alter-ego in that cave. But beyond that... what? He leaves abruptly after having a vision of his friends in peril, faces Vader, loses a hand and in the intervening years subsequent to his return to Dagobah, he has miraculously gained the neccessary skills to become a Jedi? What gives? Was it merely because the fate of the galaxy balanced squarely on his shoulders and Yoda realized that time was of the essence? Was Yoda simply too old, too sick and too tired to train him further? Was Luke in fact, the TRUE chosen one who would bring balance to the force, therefore alleviating the need for further training? Whatever the case, it would be interesting to have some answers to this question regarding Luke's abbreviated training.
A self professed Stephen King/Star Wars geek and pop culture neophyte, Scott tends to spend much of his time alone pondering life's greatest mysteries.....he also depends heavily on his son Liam, a great sounding board, to set him straight on Star Wars issues and gives him advice on what EXACTLY he's doing wrong.
