Star Wars: The Force Awakens – 10 Mythology Aspects That Must Be Explored Further
8. Force Ghosts
One of the more intriguing aspects of the entire trilogy was the fact that, even in death, some people really never completely die and disappear. As early as Episode V, viewers see the shimmering, ghostly manifestation of a very deceased Obi-Wan Kenobi appear to Luke on the ice planet of Hoth. Wait - how exactly did he do that? Later, the audience sees him again and eventually by the end of Return of the Jedi, they see the holy trinity of Force Ghosts, Obi-Wan, Yoda and Anakin. Amazing. When the prequels came out, near the end of Revenge Of The Sith, Yoda informs Obi-Wan that his former master, Qui-Gonn-Jinn, has effectively mastered life after death and has learned to communicate with the living from the nether world. But how? It is alluded to, but never explained. It would also appear that not every Jedi nor Sith is able to perform this really neat trick. Furthermore, when Yoda and Obi-Wan perish, they both disappeared, which, in some tantalizing fashion, seems to be a precursor to living on through The Force. Yet, Qui-Gonn did not disappear so it can't be mandatory. If J.J. Abrams wants to get his fans in an all out nerd lather, he will definitely explore this very unique and mystifying aspect of the Star Wars lore.
A self professed Stephen King/Star Wars geek and pop culture neophyte, Scott tends to spend much of his time alone pondering life's greatest mysteries.....he also depends heavily on his son Liam, a great sounding board, to set him straight on Star Wars issues and gives him advice on what EXACTLY he's doing wrong.
