Star Wars: The Force Awakens - 9 Plot Holes That Almost Ruined The Film
7. Han Has Never Used Chewie's Bowcaster? Um...
A small moment in the grand scheme of things, perhaps, but one that is so inherently ridiculous that it cannot be classified as anything other than a plot hole. During the scene set on Han and Chewie's freighter, then, Chewie winds up getting shot in the arm - which provides a fair enough reason as to why Rey must assume the role of Han's co-pilot - and as a result Han opts to use his best buddy's famous Bowcaster to fend off a few enemies. As he does so, though, he turns to Chewbacca and compliments him on the weapon, as if to say: "Man, I've got to get me one of these." Later, during the scene set on Starkiller Base, he does the same thing, reinforcing his love of the Bowcaster after he borrows it from Chewbacca to shoot a few Stormtroopers. But are we seriously supposed to believe that, in all their years of friendship, Han has never, ever borrowed Chewie's Bowcaster? Not even once? And then, suddenly, during the events of The Force Awakens, he uses it twice in the course of three or four days? It just makes no sense and doesn't feel realistic at all. Sure, it's probably just meant as a bit of a gag, but what an inherently unbelievable gag it is in the context of their relationship.
