Star Wars: The Force Awakens - 10 Reasons The Haters Are Dead Wrong
3. Luke's Barely In It
Luke Skywalker is the man. A whiny farm boy who singlehandedly blew up the Death Star, Luke is one of cinemas greatest bad-asses. His name is synonymous with hero. Naturally Star Wars fans were delighted when Disney announced Luke would return to the silver screen after a thirty-year absence. Then The Force Awakens came out and Luke wound up being in it for fifteen seconds tops. Some long-time fans harp on the meagre serving of Luke we got, but theres a legitimate reason for it: Luke is a showstopper that would steal the new heroes thunder. The Force Awakens scribe Michael Arndt even wrote a version of the script with a lot more Luke in it, but he felt Luke "took over" the movie when he appeared. The Force Awakens was the first part in a three-film story. The new heroes needed to shine on their own. Now that weve been introduced to Rey and Finn, Luke can play a bigger role in Episode VIII without upstaging them; the final shot of the Force Awakens promises a lot more Luke action to come. Sometimes less is definitely more, especially in this case.
