Star Wars: The Force Awakens - 10 Simple Explanations That Would Have Improved The Film

4. What Happened To Captain Phasma?

Captain Phasma, marketed in the build-up to the release of the film as some kind of badass, Boba Fett-type character, turned out to be one of the most underwhelming characters in The Force Awakens. Not only was she given barely anything to do, but the scenes that she did feature in were pretty unmemorable. She had, like, 3 minutes of screen-time. The worst thing, though, was the way that The Force Awakens "got rid" of Phasma in such an offhand way: Finn and Han throw her into the trash compactor - off-screen, mind you - and that's it. She's never mentioned or seen again. We already know that she'll be back in later episodes, thanks to Kathleen Kennedy, so what was the point of keeping quiet about her fate? It would have been easy for the film to actually show her being thrown into the trash compactor and then escaping, but just not bothering to explain anything at all felt like a mistake on the part of the filmmakers.
