Star Wars: The Force Awakens - 10 Ways It's A Remake Of A New Hope

2. The Obi-Wan Kenobi Death/Han Solo Death Parallel

When Kylo Ren makes the devastating decision to murder his own father as the pair stand over a bottomless chasm at Starkiller Base in what is without question The Force Awakens' most devastating scene, Chewbacca watches on from afar. And then Rey and Finn suddenly appear, and are forced to watch the confrontation from a balcony. As Kylo Ren puts his lightsaber through Han, killing him, Rey screams "No!" Does that seem familiar? Though the staging is slightly different and the placement of the scene is at the end of the movie instead, J.J. Abrams has clearly used Obi-Wan Kenobi's death scene from A New Hope as his inspiration for the whole thing. You know, the scene where Luke Skywalker watches on helplessly as Darth Vader kills his mentor, forcing him to shout "No!" So we have two characters confronting one another as John Williams' score becomes noticeably absent. And, as the killing blow is dealt, we have characters watching on from afar, unable to help out a their mentors, which results in a distraught cry of pain. Just another element limited from A New Hope and rejigged for The Force Awakens, then.
