Star Wars: The Force Awakens - 10 Ways The Final Trailer Eased Your Fears

9. Finn Doesn't Sound Like A Douchebag

A month or so ago, a video of an action figure gave fans their first taste of Finn's voice. Up to the time of the action figure's unveiling, nobody knew what he would sound like. Would he have an English accent? An American accent? An unspecific one? It sounded like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rXW8NY1FZFQ Douchebag-esque, right? Whiny and a bit weird in places? Totally ridiculous in others? Just listen to the delivery of lines such as "My name's Finn and I'm in charge now." What the hell is that about? And then there's "I don't... know what... to do!", which sounds like something left over from that Shia LaBeouf "Just Do It!" video. Hearing Finn's voice for the first time, then, some fans were appropriately concerned with regards to its tone and its possible effect on his character on the whole. Was Finn a bit of an uptight loser? The action figure certainly presented him as such, because "Listen, I've had a messed up day" has all the air of a deleted line reading from a naff video game. Thankfully, the new The Force Awakens trailer doesn't present Finn in the same light as his action figure equivalent. John Boyega's accent in the trailer has little resemblance to the one coming from the toy's mouth; in fact, he seems totally different. New Trailer Finn is a far cooler (albeit very facially expressive) guy, with none of the associated action figure douchebagness about him. "I've got nothing to fight for," he laments, and it sounds good.
