Star Wars: The Force Awakens - 11 Major Plot Clues From The Final Trailer
2. Chewie Is Done For
There are two things in the trailer that suggest that it's not good to be Chewbacca in The Force Awakens. First off, he's shown being captured alongside Han Solo, which never ends well (carbonite bath-time anyone). Presumably they will escape, because that's what the crew of the Millennium Falcon do, but it isn't entirely certain that they ever see freedom. That theory - that both Han AND Chewie die at the hands of the First Order - just got a massive shot in the arm thanks to the sneakily spoiler-ish image from the trailer of Rey crying over what appears to be a suspiciously furry looking downed comrade. The glinting metal on the right hand side even looks like a bandolier. So maybe it's time to start getting angry already. Han's death is still inevitable: it fits with Harrison Ford's attempt to leave the franchise earlier, it also fits with the agenda not to have middle aged heroes looking all uncool around the place, and it suits the narrative. It would certainly give Rey a reason to fight back, anyway, and it could be what actually draws Luke Skywalker out of hiding (when he senses his sister's pain and realises he has to protect her and his niece). But Chewie is a different matter. Yes, okay, so maybe it would be too cruel to have him survive without Han, but killing him is like kicking a puppy. Even the most ardent of critics wouldn't even have killed Jar Jar Binks for narrative impact, and we're talking about one of the most beloved characters in the entire franchise here.
