Star Wars: The Force Awakens - 11 Major Plot Clues From The Final Trailer

1. Is Luke Really The Bad Guy?

Look, whether you care to accept it or not, the entire trailer is setting up the idea of Luke Skywalker not being what he once was. He might be absent (again), but that vacuum seemingly says a lot more than any presence could, and it inevitably helps fertilise the fan theory that Skywalker is Kylo Ren, or is at least his dark master. You get the feeling that that's exactly how you're supposed to think, which probably means that's not at all how the film is going to actually play out. It's all trying a little too hard; it's all just too insistent. First there was the fact that Luke has so far been mostly absent from the trailers, and then there was his even more notable absence from the official poster: it's like they're consciously suppressing any detail relating to him in order to encourage the inevitable tide of theorising. The most compelling theory so far is that Luke is simply in hiding because he accidentally created the new villain, having taken him on as a padawan and taught him the ways of the Force before he was seduced by the mythology of Darth Vader and the fearsome potential of the Dark Side. That would set up an ultimate show-down between master and padawan, and while it's all terribly close to what we've seen before, it fits in with the main arc of the entire franchise. It too would help explain how Finn manages to escape Ren when the pair face off in the snowy forest. Because there's no way the untrained former stormtrooper is ever going to be able to best him in hand-to-hand combat. What did you learn from the Star Wars: The Force Awakens final trailer?
