Star Wars: The Force Awakens - 12 Reasons It Lives Up To The Hype

9. The Lightsaber Fights Are Some Of The Best Yet

There was a lot of controversy caused by Kylo Ren's cross-guard lightsaber when it first appeared in the trailers, but any lingering doubts will surely have been put to rest by seeing it in action. The way it buzzes and cackles with a violent rage that reflects that of its owner is fantastic, a true extension of his personality rather than simply a weapon. It gets a couple of moments to shine, first against Finn - as teased in the trailers - and then Rey, the actual new Jedi of the film. The battle with Finn on its own is pretty impressive, fighting style giving way to wild swings and anger, and that cross-guard really starts to show its usefulness. It's the second and final fight, though, where it all comes together. The new hero vs the new villain, the sight of blue on red. It's much more action packed than the fights we saw in the originals, well-choreographed and full of a furious chaos, but far more emotionally resonant than those in the prequels. It takes the best elements from each, and packages them into something new and exciting.
