8. The Twists Are Well Executed
There's no "I am your father" moment in this film (and really, nothing is ever going to beat that), but that doesn't mean there aren't a couple of big twists. That's probably a subjective term, because if you've been engrossed in the film for the last year, reading all of the theories etc, then you've probably come across the notions of Han dying and Rey being a Skywalker (because she is, right?) long before now. For the general audience, though, these moments will come as a big shock, and even if you had an inkling they were still extremely well executed. There was a lot of speculation about Kylo Ren's true identity, and that's actually dealt with relatively swiftly, allowing the film to move on and come back to it for one of the biggest moments of the entire saga. It all feels like it's very relevant and necessary, rather than a twist simply designed to shock, and these will continue to have an impact throughout Episodes VIII and IX as well, while also really adding to the story of The Force Awakens.
