Star Wars: The Force Awakens - 16 Biggest Revelations From The TV Spots
4. Rey Is No Damsel
As Daisy Ridley seems to have been very motivated to say repeatedly throughout her press interviews in the lead up to release, Rey's importance as a female character is mostly that she transcends gender. She's not just a damsel in distress or a plucky girl who discovers the courage to defy her gender and be an action hero. Instead, as her exchange with Han Solo in one of the laterTV spots shows, she's well equipped to deal with any threat. She's already adept at combat with her staff, and Han's invitation to take a blaster (which she wrongly sees as him patronising her) is met with a nice touch of cockiness. And it's nice to see Solo avoiding the wet-eyed father role here, effectively giving her a blaster to help cover his own ass.
