Star Wars: The Force Awakens - 30 Easter Eggs & References You Need To See

12. The SS

It's impossible to miss the Nazi references. For one, the stormtroopers are children stolen from families and reconditioned to love the Empire and fear Luke Skywalker - like the Hitler Youth. Plus after seeing the Imperial uniforms in the original trilogy based on the Wehrmacht, the First Order uniforms take obvious visual lead from the SS. Perhaps that's meant to reflect their more vicious commitment? Abrams actually directly compared the First Order to Nazis who fled to South America following the fall of Berlin, though I don't remember them building a Death Star. General Hux's rousing speech - including the emotional breaks of Domhnall Gleeson's voice - are very, very reminiscent of Hitler's style of public speaking too.
