Star Wars: The Force Awakens - 30 Easter Eggs & References You Need To See

13. X-Wings

Though it appears that the Resistance are still using the same X-Wings made famous in the original trilogy, they've actually undergone some developments. At least some of them are based on more concept art from Ralph McQuarrie, who initially designed the ships to have semi-circular engines that close together to make a full circle when the wings are shut. Poe Dameron's fighter - which has distinctive colours because people in Star Wars want to know they're shooting at someone more important, apparently - is a T-70, an update from the T-65B Luke flew. The inclusion of Blue Squadron is also something of a nod backwards too, as that was intended to be Luke's squadron, but had to be changed when it was clear that the blue wouldn't work with a blue screen background. So his colour classification changed to red.
