Star Wars: The Force Awakens - 30 Easter Eggs & References You Need To See

7. The Homage Shots

JJ Abrams is clearly a fan of cinematics, and he uses The Force Awakens to visually reference other classic movies. Firstly, the shot of the TIE fighters approaching against the backdrop of a sunset is very reminiscent of Apocalypse Now. The all-too-brief shot of the Knights of Ren (who we should all expect to be back), standing with their weapons drawn in the rain surrounded by their fallen foes is very similar to a shot from Seven Samurai. He also seems to borrow the shot of Captain Phasma and his troops attacking the Jakku village from Full Metal Jacket. And of course it's impossible not to draw a parallel between Finn, Rey and BB-8 running away from the diving TIEs and North By Northwest. If it doesn't turn out in the sequel that Snoke is pulling a Wizard Of Oz and pretending to be massive, I'll be shocked (and saddened).
