Star Wars: The Force Awakens - 6 Celebrities Who Didn't Like The Movie

6. George Lucas Didn't Like The Retro Approach

Let's kick things off with what is probably the most familiar criticism from a celebrity with regards to The Force Awakens - one that, surprisingly, came from the mouth of the guy who actually created Star Wars. George Lucas sold the franchise to Disney, before later branding them "white slavers." And then he dropped this little ditty, in reference to J.J. Abrams' decision to make "something for the fans" with Episode VII:

"They wanted to do a retro movie. I don€™t like that. Every movie I work very hard to make them completely different, with different planets, with different spaceships, make it new."

There's no getting away from the fact that Lucas pretty much sounds like an old crank here, bitter about the way that his "beloved" franchise has gone. Granted, he later apologised for his comments and said that he admired what J.J. Abrams had done with Star Wars, but there was a note of insincerity about the whole thing that didn't really ring true.

Even if Lucas is right about The Force Awakens (and he is to a degree), he probably shouldn't have written off the movie in such plain terms. Then again, he did create Star Wars, so maybe he can say whatever the hell he wants.
