5. Samuel L. Jackson Wasn't Impressed With "The Kids"
Here's another unexpected Force Awakens detractor who has ties to the actual franchise. That's right: Samuel L. Jackson, who played Jedi Master Mace Windu across the span of the prequel trilogy (a role he himself asked George Lucas to write for him), recently spoke out about Episode VII... and he wasn't too complimentary of it. During an interview with Peter Travers, movie critic for Rolling Stone magazine, Jackson gave what Travers referred to as a "diplomatic answer" when asked about the film:
"Its done in the spirit of the Star Wars films. Its adventuresome and exciting in a way. I think the kids need to go to lightsaber fight school, but thats just me thinking that. Theyve got time to get better.
It's exciting "in a way?" Hm. Hearing the way he says "lightsaber fight school," it's hard not to take the comment as "they need to go acting school." Because surely Jackson wasn't referring to the fact that they need to learn how to fight with lightsabers, because a) that makes no sense, given that everyone in the movie is a newbie with a lightsaber and b) that makes no sense.
