Star Wars: The Force Awakens - 8 Batsh*t Crazy Theories About Rey's Parents

8. She's Somehow Related To Emperor Palpatine

Now that the Expanded Universe stories have been discarded, we're back to knowing very little about Emperor Palpatine away from what we saw of his early years in the prequels and the fleeing glimpses in the Original Trilogy. Already the in-canon Marvel Comics have already revealed that the villain went about recruiting possible replacements for Darth Vader after the destruction of the first Death Star, so who knows how many other secrets he could be hiding. The big question here of course is whether or not children are among those secrets. Awife hidden away somewhere in the Galaxy seems like a rather ridiculous stretch, but, even so, some fans have found a way of connecting Palpatine to Rey and remain convinced that they share the same bloodline. Their proof? Er, the fact she has an English accent is one of the main arguments! It's also been said that Rey's fighting style is similar to that of the Emperor's in Revenge of the Sith (which it sort of is) and her name meaning "king" in Spanish has to somehow be connected to the now dead ruler of the Empire. However, this definitely still feels like an attempt to connect dots where there are none. Plus, what would be the point of this unless the plan is to take Rey down a much darker path in a future movie?
