1. Her Parents Are Totally New Creations
While this may sound similar to the suggestion that Rey's parents were among Luke Skywalker's new Jedi Order, this theory actually argues that Rey's parents are either entirely new creations without any connections to well known characters, or even that they'll never be revealed at all. It definitely seemed like Maz Kanata was compelling Rey to move on from the belief that they were coming back for her, but why bother to set up this mystery if answers aren't coming? Failing to ever address why Rey was left on Jakku and who was responsible for that, will be massively unsatisfying and Disney must realise the backlash it would cause. The same thing applies to Rey's parents being new characters. While the positive reaction to Rey, Finn, and Poe Dameron proves that Star Wars fans are happy to embrace original creations in this trilogy, expectations surrounding the identity of Rey's mother and father are simply too high for Rian Johnson or Colin Trevorrow (who has promised that answers are coming) to fob fans off. So, fair play to these theorists for trying to think up an original theory, but it's another which doesn't work. Who do you think Rey's parents are?
