Star Wars: The Force Awakens - 8 Major Revelations From The Filmmakers

2. Captain Phasma Will Return

One of the few disappointments of Star Wars: The Force Awakens has to be the fact that Gwendoline Christie ended up having such a minor role as Captain Phasma. While the character is still cool as hell and fun to watch whenever she does appear, it seems like being thrown into a trash compacter in a base which exploded shortly after must have spelled her doom, right? Well, thankfully that's not going to be the case. Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy broke the studio's no spoiler policy to confirm that Phasma will definitely be in Episode VIII, adding: "She's an important character, a baddie in the best sense of the word." That's definitely a relief, but will we get an explanation as to how she survived? Probably not. After all, The Empire Strikes Back never addressed how Darth Vader managed to make it back to the Emperor after his TIE Fighter was sent hurtling off into space, and so Episode VIII is unlikely to waste too much screentime on stuff like Phasma's escape and how exactly General Hux would have found the wounded Kylo Ren out in the forest before the planet exploded. Regardless, news of her return is very welcome indeed, especially as it's obvious that there's so much more which can be done with this character moving forward.
