By the time the credits rolled on Star Wars: The Force Awakens, three great new leads had been introduced in the form of Rey, Finn, and Poe Dameron. However, the latter wasn't originally going to make it out of the movie alive, something I think it's fair to say would have resulted in a lot of backlash, especially as it would have been a waste of a great character and the extremely talented Oscar Isaac. The actor apparently reluctantly agreed to sign up to star in the movie despite being told that Poe would be killed off, and in a recent GQ interview, he revealed that the exchange played out something like this:
"Hes amazing! said Abrams. "Sounds good!" thought Isaac, whose first experience in a movie theater had been seeing The Empire Strikes Back. "He opens the whole movie!" said Abrams."Sounds great!" thought Isaac. "And then," Abrams went on. "He dies." "Oh," thought Isaac.
Thankfully, the decision was made to keep Poe around, though he would have presumably been killed off after the TIE Fighter crashed on Jakku. Depending how late in the game Abrams and Kasdan changed their minds, this might explain why the character returns later in the movie with only a vague explanation as to how he managed to survive! Regardless, they definitely made the right decision by keeping him alive! What other reveals have the filmmakers made about Star Wars: The Force Awakens? Share any we missed down in the comments.
