5. George Lucas Isn't Involved
On the one hand, it's difficult to criticise George Lucas too much. After all, this is the man who gave us the greatest film trilogy of all time, without whom none of this would have ever happened. On the other, he's spent an awful lot of time tarnishing his legacy, either through the prequels or meddling with the originals as not-so-special editions. He built a beautiful house, furnished it with all the finest trappings, and then proceeded to burgle it. However, when he sold Lucasfilm to Disney back in 2012, it heralded a semi-retirement for the director, and in particular meant that he would have absolutely no involvement in The Force Awakens. While there will always be gratitude to Lucas for what he created, it has been increasingly clear that his presence was more hindrance than help to the Star Wars universe, and a film without him should be free of a lot of the problems that have plagued it over the past 20 years.
