Star Wars: The Force Awakens - 8 Reasons It'll Live Up To The Hype (And 2 You'll Be Disappointed)
4. Lawrence Kasdan Co-Wrote It
The Empire Strikes Back. Raiders Of The Lost Ark. Return Of the Jedi. Lawrence Kasdan has written many films, but when three of them are as good as those, that's pretty much all you need to know. This is the guy who gave us the best Star Wars film to date, a great closer to the trilogy, and helped kick-start the Indiana Jones franchise. And along with Abrams he's co-writing The Force Awakens. This is his first foray back into Star Wars since Return Of The Jedi, which means he hasn't been involved in what's come since, and also he's picking up the story at quite a natural point, as it's been a similar timeframe since he wrote it to what it is in the film. When Disney bought Lucasfilm, Kasdan was given the opportunity to pick any character he wanted to write a standalone about. That should give you some clue as to how important and respected he is when it comes to Star Wars. He chose Han Solo, and that movie - directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, no less - will be out in 2018. But then he was asked to help write The Force Awakens. And the idea of Kasdan, writing another proper Star Wars film, gives off a strong sense that it will live up to expectations.
NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far.
A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
