2. Flashbacks
With a movie as huge as Star Wars: The Force Awakens, traffic chasing blogs you've never heard of have inevitably posted "spoilers" from the movie. However, a number of sites have emerged as credible sources of information over the past couple of years, and one of those dropped some very interesting information in regards to this movie being the first in the franchise to feature flashbacks. When Han, Finn, and Rey track down Lupita Nyongo's Maz Kanata, she recaps the events of the original trilogy and it's then that a flashback kicks in featuring Luke Skywalker returning to the Jedi Academy he created only to discover that The Knights of Ren have slaughtered them all. The scene from the trailer in which Luke places his hand on R2-D2 is said to be Luke's farewell to the droid before he vanishes. That all sounds pretty believable, but here's where things get really interesting. Another flashback will reveal that Rey's parents were part of a clan that got their hands on Luke Skywalker's lightsaber. That's what brought the Knights of Ren to them, and Rey's parents - clearly not Skywalkers or Solos - abandon her on Jakku in the hope of keeping her safe after a young Kylo spotted her during that battle. While this doesn't sound 100% accurate (there's no way Kylo is this much older that Rey; could he have been taken by the Knights or been a Padawan of sorts to them as a youngster?), at least some of this information adds up with what's been seen in the trailers, stills, and merchandise. Still, after Abrams has made an effort to keep Rey's surname a secret, fans are sure to be disappointed if she's the daughter of two nobodies...
